Humble Beginnings

Fred Beans took a risk at a young age. Fueled by the desire to be a successful entrepreneur, he purchased Big Oak service station in the late 1950s with a $5,500 loan co-signed by his mother. His out-of-the-box marketing ideas and tireless work ethic brought Beans success, and a hunger for a bigger challenge. In 1972, he bought a 25-percent share of Bill Marsh Ford in Newtown, where his diligent efforts doubled business in the first year.

On February 28, 1975, Fred Beans signed the papers that gave him ownership of the J.J. Conroy Ford dealership on Easton Road in Plumstead Township, just north of Doylestown. Success came quickly and Beans began acquiring other dealerships, always keeping his company's values grounded in customer service, employee development, and community enrichment. His visionary business philosophy has made the Fred Beans nameplate what it is today: a family-oriented dealership group selling 23 different automotive makes, with the Fred Beans Nissan of Limerick, Kia of Limerick, and Nissan of Doylestown locations being the most recent additions.

Much of this success is owed to Beans hands-on approach, even 30 years after taking ownership of his first store. Following the sentiment of not leaving his troops out in the hot sun, Beans is an approachable leader who stands beside his employees on the sales and service floors. In fact, Beans was chosen to serve with just 17 other dealer principals nationwide on the Ford Motor Company Process Improvement Steering Panel.

"I enjoy coming to work each day," says Beans. "I feel blessed to have the opportunity to work with my employees and our customers. It has always been my core belief that we are all just caretakers for future generations, and it is that which keeps me going. We are so fortunate to have so many nice customers and a great community in which to live and work."

The Fred Beans Family of Dealerships is a proud resident and participant in the community of Doylestown and Central Bucks County - we are striving to make a difference.

Beans has used his position and resources to give back to the community in a host of ways. Locally, he is the past recipient of Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce's Business Achievement Award, the Bucks County Council, Boy Scouts of America Top Scouting Award, and the Intelligencer newspapers Power Brokers: Bucks County's 10 Most Influential in 2000 for significant impact to the county over his lifetime. Recently, the Fred Beans Family of Dealerships has worked with other community leaders to adopt the towns of Bay Waveland and Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. Both towns were ravaged by Hurricane Katrina, and thanks to the Fred Beans Family of Dealerships they will now have a new, state of the art daycare center. Another venue that the Fred Beans Family of Dealerships has committed to is the James Michener Museum. An endowment was presented to the Museum by the Fred Beans Family of Dealerships affording the museum the ability to increase the size of the facility and acquire additional collections. The Museum is one of the many cultural attractions found in Bucks County that brings numerous visitors into our area.

Family, too

The Fred Beans Family of Dealerships is exactly what its name suggests, a family-owned company built with pride. Beans three daughters all hold important positions within the company and customers and employees alike agree that the entire organization feels like one big happy family.

Beth Beans Gilbert is Vice President of the Fred Beans Family of Dealerships. Gilbert oversees operations for Kia of Limerick, Fred Beans Mitsubishi, and Fred Beans Volkswagen in Devon, runs the management company, and implements her father's vision for the corporation. Barbara Beans manages the Fred Beans Fleet Group, a division of the company responsible for selling vehicles to local businesses. Jennifer Beans Keiser manages Autorent of Doylestown. Also very active in the community, Jennifer represents the company at several Business Expos throughout the year. She and Barbara spearhead the company's annual Bring your Sons and Daughters to Work Day. Each year the two plan a day of events for the children of employees.

"A Letter of Gratitude"

I just wanted to say that for almost three years I have been dealing with your folks at the Cadillac dealership in Doylestown.  My first experience with Fred Beans was almost ten years ago with the Chevrolet folks and at that time I was not impressed; however in 2005, I needed a part for my 1999 Cadillac El Dorado, went to your service department, purchased the part, and also purchased a Cadillac XLR which I absolutely love.  The following year, 2006, I came back and purchased a Cadillac CTS for my wife with every option we could find.  We love that car also.

What I really wanted to tell you is that since my first experience over ten years ago, your organization has really made a drastic change for the better.  You people really know what customer service is about, and each and every time I visit your dealership for anything you might think I was a long lost relative of the Beans family.  That is exactly how they make my wife and I feel.  I am talking about all your folks, from the salesman (Mike Dougherty), your service manager (Gary Pio), your service consultants (Allison & Mike), to your parts individual (Shawn).  These folks really take care of us regardless of what we are there for.  I have on several occasions tried to leave your employees a tip, and the answer I have always gotten is, "No, thank you.  Your business is our tip."

Please let the know for me just how much their attention to detail and customer service means to me.  I am a retired Executive (Vice President) that worked with Motorola for 25 years.  There are so many companies who could learn from your people just what customer service really is.
